Backpacking in the Lake District is one of the cheapest ways to enjoy all Cumbria has to offer, although not highly catered for backpackers can still find some good cheap holiday accommodation.
With cost being the major factor in where a backpacker ends up sleeping, the Lake District can cater for the cheap traveller on a tight budget. Many backpackers are in their early twenties so don't mind their accommodation to be shared with other like minded visitors to the area.
Backpackers should also consider Youth Hostels, there's a good few to choose from especially if you're travelling through the area and would like to stop in different towns or villages for a few nights while you explore the local area.
