Birdoswald Fort (Banna) this is located in Brampton near Carlisle. Besides Hardknott Birdoswald Fort is one of the most impressive Roman Forts within Cumbria.

Its five-acre layout was created to guard the river Irthing and its crossing point at Willowford. You wont find a better point anywhere along Hadrian’s wall where all the parts of a Roman frontier system can be seen in one place.

There is also evidence that this was occupied during the dark ages and the west gate appeared to be used for at least a thousand years. There are excellent view overlooking the surrounding countryside and if you walk in an easterly direction the wall can be followed to Harrow's Scar milecastle.
