Windermere Steamboats and Museum ( Attractions )

Windermere Steamboats and Museum – The museum was built in 1976 on the site of a former sand wharf.

 

There are exhibits that display the history of Windermere, which dates back to the Romans who used the lake from their camp Galava in Waterhead.

 

The Windermere Nautical Trust exhibits the main stages in the development of steam launches on the Windermere, the oldest is the primitive S.L. Dolly that was salvaged after 67 years on the lakebed.

 

The Steamboat Wetlock, built on the original sand wharf quay, has 15 steamboats including the S.L. Dolly dating back to 1850, the S.L. Osprey dating back to 1902 and the S.S. Raven dating back to 1871.
