At Bridekirk a dignified nineteenth-century church has largely replaced the Normal foundation.
What appears to be an original chancel arch is now over the organ and an ancient tympanum is set above the south transept door, but the treasure in this church is the font.
It is casket-shaped with intricate twelfth-century carved panels depicting birds, beasts and what may be a portrait of the sculptor Richard, according to the runic inscriptions, chipping away with his hammer and chisel.
