St Catherine's stands in a beautiful location by the river Esk and is a typical small dale chapel, solidly built of Eskdale granite in the twelfth-century and rebuilt in 1881.

It has interesting stained glass and an ancient decorated octagonal font.

The grave of Tommy Dobson, a famous local huntsman, is in the churchyard.
