Ninth-century fragments indicate this to be an ancient foundation and it has a wealth of interesting features: a twelve-century font with a beautifully carved cover, a three-decker Georgian pulpit with a scallop-shell carved cover, unusual stained glass and numerous examples of fine modern wood-carving.
This is one of the Cumbrian churches which has a rushbearing on the last Sunday in September.
