Alfred Wainwright ( Famous People )

Alfred Wainwright – Alfred Wainwright was born in Blackburn in 1907, at the age of 23 he went on holiday to the Lake District for a week and fell in love with the Lakelands right away.

He is famous for his seven Pictorial Guides to the Lakeland Fells, he made once he was appointed a position in the Borough Treasurers Office in Kendal in 1941.

These handwritten and hand-drawn works of art have been the inspiration to all fellwalkers for the past 40 years.

All his books and drawings were published by The Westmorland Gazette in Kendal. The Kendal Museum of Natural History has a recreation of the office he used to work from in the Borough Treasurers Office in Kendal. Alfred Wainwright died in 1991.
