St Michael’s Church – The church was built inside the Roman fort on Hadrian’s Wall in the late 12th century, and is located in Burgh-by-sands.

It occupies one of the central buildings of the fort, most probably the granary.

The West tower is the earliest surviving example of fortified churches in the 14th century.
