Alston – Alston is located in the east of the county on the Pennines, and is easily reached via the A686.

Gilderdale Forest located near the village offers a number of excellent walking trails. Just a short distance from Alston to the south stands a striking line of fells ranging from Melmerby Fell at the northern end to Little Fell in the south.
