Askham ( Towns & Villages )

Askham – Askham is located in the Lowther Valley, 3 miles to the east of Pooley Bridge.

This beautiful small village is a good place to go for a quiet break away from modern life. The village has a few 17th and 18th century houses, two pubs, a village green, a hall, a church and nearby castle ruins.

Lowther Estate is situated on the outskirts of the village and is the site of the ruins of Lowther Castle, which was the family home of the Earl of Lonsdale. Askham Hall dates back to the 14th century and was converted into an Elizabethan mansion in the 16th century.

St Michael’s church is located on the road from the village to Lowther Castle and parts of it date back to the 13th century. The Lowther Mausoleum built in 1857 is found in the churchyard.

The village is also home to Lowther Park, which is a leisure centre and offers wide range activities for people of all ages.
