Bassenthwaite village is a largely unspoilt medieval village and is one of the quieter villages in the Lake District.

The main attraction of the village is the Bassenthwaite Church, which dates back to the 12th and 13th centuries and is one of the only examples of churches from this period in the area that remain today.

Bassenthwaite Lake is located to the north east of the village and is one of the most unspoilt of all the lakes in the Lake District.
