Broughton in Furness ( Towns & Villages )

Broughton-in-Furness – Broughton-in-Furness is located within the Lake District National Park close to the mountains and the shores of southern Cumbria.

The town dates back to the 11th century, but most of the buildings date back to the 18th and 19th centuries.

Broughton has a number of attractions on offer including a 19th century obelisk erected in honour of the Silver Jubilee of George III, located in the Market Square; the church of St. Mary Magdelene, which dates back to 1547; the 14th century Broughton Tower; the Dock Museum and the 12th century Furness Abbey.

Nearby attractions include the Furness fells and the ancient Swinside Stone Circle. Broughton is also a popular base from which walkers set out to explore the Duddon Valley.
