Caldbeck ( Towns & Villages )

Caldbeck – Caldbeck is located in the northern part of the Lake District National Park in the area known as Back O’ Skidda.

This picturesque Lakeland village beside the river Cold Beck has two famous residents John Bull, the famous huntsman, and Mary Robinson, the beautiful Maid of Buttermere.

Caldbeck was a farming village until the mineral wealth in the local fells was discovered. The village became a thriving industrial village in the 18th century with a number of industries set up in and around the village.

St Kentigem Church is one of the oldest buildings in the village and dates back to the 12th century. There are also a number of mills located throughout the area that date back to the 18th century.

Caldbeck is a popular destination amongst walkers, with a number of excellent walking trails found in the area around the village. The nearby Caldbeck Fells are largely untouched and isolated and are popular with fell walkers.
