Coniston ( Towns & Villages )

Coniston – Coniston is one of the most famous of all Lakeland destinations, and is located next to Lake Coniston and at the foot of The Old Man of Coniston.

This centrally located town mostly built in local grey stone is the shopping centre for a large number of visitors to the Lakes area.

Coniston has a number of other attractions on offer, including the Village Church, which is the final resting place of the famous Coniston 'Renaissance man' Ruskin; Brantwood, Ruskin's former home; and Coniston Hall, dating back to the 15th century.

The village is also an excellent base for fell walkers and mountaineers. Coniston Water located close by provides trips on the famed Edwardian gondola and boat hire, as well as a range of other water based activities all year round.
