Dacre – This ancient and beautiful village is located to the north of Pooley Bridge, and is made up of a few cottages, farms, a church, a castle and a pub.
The Church of St Andrews was built on the site of a Saxon monastery, and it houses two parts of an ancient cross shaft in its chancel.
The churchyard contains 4 carvings of bears, which are known as the Dacre Bears and mark the 4 corners of the original churchyard.
The Norman Castle found just out of the village is a private residence and is not open to the public, but it is still worth taking a look at.
The Horse Farrier pub is famous for its selection of local beers and local cuisine, and is a must if you’re in Dacre.
