Elterwater ( Towns & Villages )

Elterwater – This charming village is situated a few miles to the west of Ambleside, behind Loughrigg and Silver How by the entrance to Great Langdale.

The village is cut in half by Langdale Beck, which flows through it down to Elterwater Lake. The village has a pub called the Britannia Inn, a village green, a few cottages that are mostly holiday accommodation.

Elterwater Lake is very popular with visitors to the Lake District, with its beautiful setting surrounded by the twin peaks of Harrison’s Sickle and Pike of Stickle and mixed woodland.

There are a number different walks available and most of them begin and end in the village, which makes Elterwater a good base for exploring the surrounding landscape.
