Gosforth ( Towns & Villages )

Gosforth – This charming but rather big rural village is located at the Wasdale turn off from the A595 on the western coast of Cumbria.

The village square is quite lively and has a bakery, café, a few newsagents, Post Office, a range of arts and crafts shops and a number of pubs. Close to the village square there are a few hotels, some Garden Centres and the Gosforth Pottery.

The village’s most famous attraction is St Mary’s, which is possibly the most historical church in the area. The current church was built in 1789, but a church has been on this location since the 12th century.

The churches top attraction is the Viking cross found in the churchyard, one of the finest in the whole of England.

The Gosforth Pottery is also a top attraction in the village and has a wide range of handmade stoneware and earthware, as well as decorative biscuit stamps that are sold al over the world.

There are also a number of places of interest to visit near Gosforth including Wastwater, Wasdale Head and the small and relaxed resort of Seascale.
