Ireby – Ireby is located to the north of Bassenthwaite and it was once an important market village, with its charter dating back the 13th century.
This small village has a row of houses along the main road, a Post Office and two pubs, the Black Lion and the Sun.
The market cross still stands opposite the Black Lion Hotel as a reminder of Ireby’s former glory.
A short distance from the village lies Over Water, the northernmost and smallest water in the Lake District.
The village also has a range of accommodation available, including the Black Lion Hotel and a few guest houses.
