Ireleth – Ireleth is located on the southern tip of the Cumbrian coast and overlooks the Duddon estuary.
This village is an ancient settlement and has been in existence since the 11th century, reference was made to Ireleth in the Doomesday Book of William the Conqueror.
The villages more recent history had mostly to do with iron mines and iron works, with industry helping it to grow.
The Furness Abbey located nearby dates back to 1127 and is one of the largest monasteries in Britain. The Abbey provides visitors a view of the Dalton area from times gone by and it also has a visitor centre that is both entertaining and informative.
The village has a lot to offer its visitors, the local pubs serve some of the best locally brewed beers and exquisite local dishes. There is also a range of accommodation available from hotels to guest houses.
