Satterthwaite ( Towns & Villages )

Satterthwaite – This charming village is located in the Grizedale Forest, overlooking Grizedale Beck and is surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery in the Lake District.

There has been a settlement at Satterthwaite since Viking times, the village’s name means ‘summer farm in a clearing’ in Norse.

Today the village is made up of a few farm dwellings and houses and the population hasn’t grown much over the past few hundred years.

Satterthwaite is a quiet Lakeland village and is perfect for a laid back and peaceful holiday in the Lake District.

There are a number of good walks around the village; the most popular are those that explore the beautiful Grizedale Forest.
